We’re always down for supporting local businesses, so when we spotted Privateer rum out of Ipswich, MA we had to give it a try. At the packie store, there were two choices – Navy Yard (Yahd?) or Queen’s Share. As the Queen’s was slightly higher rated and only $2 more, we did our best Queen Elizabeth wave and headed to the checkout.
Queen’s Share is a unique blend with each barrel being different from another (you can read more about their process here or in the distiller tasting notes linked below) me what you get one time might be different from the next (a bit like what Forest said about a box of chocolates).
Drinking this rum on the rocks it’s a bit harsh and without a ton of flavor. The building blocks were there but this batch needed more time in the barrel. That being said, adding this to mixed drinks was a revelation. It mellowed nicely and mixed well with our pina colada. While it might be a bit expensive for a mixing rum, if you happen to see it, give it a try and let us know what you think in the comments below.
Stay in good spirits!
